Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has been urged to consider signing a more experienced goalkeeper despite Senne Lammens’ impressive debut season at Old Trafford.
According to Metro, former Premier League winger Micky Gray said Lammens, who joined United from Royal Antwerp for a reported £18.1 million last summer, may not yet be ready to shoulder the demands of playing regularly in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
The 24-year-old established himself as United’s first-choice goalkeeper after displacing Altay Bayindir, making 32 Premier League appearances and keeping eight clean sheets. Former midfielder Owen Hargreaves reportedly described him as the club’s “signing of the season.”
“I’d still personally look at an experienced, quality goalkeeper,” Gray told talkSPORT, adding that playing two matches a week would be “a big ask” for the Belgian.
United have already signed Karl Darlow on a free transfer from Leeds United to provide experienced backup. Lammens is yet to return for pre-season after representing Belgium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he made one appearance and was involved in the quarter-final defeat to Spain after spilling a shot that led to Mikel Merino’s winning goal.
