Man Forcefully Sleeps With Wife in Public for Taking Refuge in the House of a Male Helper

A 34-year-old mother of six from Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State has alleged that she was raped, assaulted by a mob, abandoned in a forest for three days, and later banished from her community.

According to The Sun, the allegations were made public by the Women’s Aid Collective (WACOL), which said it received the survivor’s account and supporting evidence while calling for justice. WACOL alleged that the woman had endured years of domestic violence before fleeing her husband and seeking temporary refuge through a male palm kernel trader.

The organization claimed the trader’s associate allegedly raped the woman and disclosed her location to her husband, who later arrived with a mob. WACOL further alleged that the husband raped her publicly while the trader was restrained, after which both were stripped, beaten, and attacked with broken bottles and cutlasses. The group said the injured woman was abandoned in a forest, where she remained for three days before Good Samaritans rescued her.

WACOL also alleged that the community’s traditional ruler and President General banished the survivor and her family for reporting the incident to police. The group commended the Enugu State Police Command for making arrests and urged authorities to apprehend all remaining suspects.
