Political analyst Kingsley Ndibe has said Peter Obi’s repeated pledge to serve only one term if elected president should be viewed as a commitment to national unity and equity rather than political weakness.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV on Monday, July 27, 2026, Ndibe said he had personally questioned the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate about his one-term promise.
According to Ndibe, Obi explained that it would be difficult to advocate fairness and equal treatment for the Igbo people while denying other regions their opportunity for political inclusion through power rotation.
Ndibe argued that the one-term commitment reflects Obi’s belief in fairness, equity, and national cohesion. He added that power rotation remains an important principle for ensuring all parts of Nigeria feel represented in the country’s political process.
He also credited Obi with raising the political relevance and national recognition of the Igbo people since the end of the Nigerian civil war, describing the one-term pledge as a sacrifice aimed at strengthening national unity.
