The Nigerian Army has dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six suspects and recovering equipment allegedly used in the operation.
Troops of the 65 Battalion carried out the raid following credible intelligence, with the operation led by the battalion’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo. Recovered items included four trucks, a pumping machine, and several pipes and drums believed to have been used for storing and transporting petroleum products.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, the operation underscores the military’s commitment to combating crude oil theft and protecting critical national assets.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and legal action.
The General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops and urged them to sustain operations against oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage in the division’s area of responsibility.
