Former spokesperson for Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, has questioned why the former Anambra State governor filed a lawsuit against him while allegedly not taking similar legal action against other critics.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo argued that the suit was not genuinely about defamation, stating that defamation cases are based on statements already made, not on comments someone may make in the future. He claimed Obi sued him because he believed Okonkwo intended to disclose more information about him, rather than because of any defamatory remarks.
Okonkwo described the case as frivolous and expressed confidence that it would fail in court. He also alleged that Obi’s motive was to weaken politically influential figures from the South-East.
He further questioned why Obi had not sued Omoyele Sowore, whom he said had described Obi as a “package fraud,” or the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who he alleged recently said Obi “lies like a fish drinks water.”
In his words, “Just yesterday, the Minister of Aviation said that he lies like a fish drinks water. Has he sued him? … Minister of Aviation has called him a liar and unfortunately I agree with him on that.”
