Peter Francis, the Lagos truck driver whose leg was amputated after he was allegedly shot by police officers at a checkpoint in Ketu, has recounted the events that followed the incident, including the arrival of soldiers at the scene.
Speaking in an interview with Punch Newspapers on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Francis said soldiers responded after hearing gunfire and noticing the commotion. According to him, they drove to where he was lying and asked what had happened.
“They brought their car and asked what happened to me. So my wife replied that the police had shot her partner because of N500,” Francis said.
He alleged that his wife informed the soldiers the shooting followed a police officer’s demand for a N500 bribe at the checkpoint. Francis maintained that he was returning from work when he was stopped by the officers before the encounter turned violent.
The truck driver further alleged that he was left bleeding after the shooting and that the soldiers were among the first security personnel to assist him after the police officers reportedly fled the scene.
