Political commentator Bolaji Abdullahi has called on Femi Gbajabiamila to consider stepping aside temporarily if his name is linked to ongoing allegations, saying doing so would allow for an independent investigation and help protect his reputation.
According to a report by Symfoni News on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Abdullahi made the remarks while discussing the reported situation involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and its potential political implications.
Abdullahi expressed concern over reports about El-Rufai’s condition, warning that any adverse outcome could have serious political consequences.
“Today Malam El-Rufai is being held and his health is failing from all accounts that we’ve had,” he said.
He added:
“I will repeat it here, if God forbid anything happens to El-Rufai, President Tinubu should realize that even if he didn’t intend it, he will be personally held responsible, and the consequences cannot be imagined.”
Abdullahi also claimed that President Bola Tinubu understood El-Rufai’s political influence.
“President Tinubu knows Malam, and he knows what Malam is capable of doing because he knows what Malam did for him. That’s why he made sure that the one person he’s taking out of circulation is Malam because he knows what he is capable of doing,” he said.
Addressing the allegations involving Gbajabiamila, Abdullahi argued that the Chief of Staff should temporarily leave office if his name is being associated with the controversy.
“If I were Femi Gbajabiamila, I’d offer to go on leave since my name is being dragged in the mud, and no amount of money on earth is worth my name,” he said.
He continued:
“I’d offer to proceed on leave to allow this investigation to be carried out so that I can be exonerated beyond all doubts.”
Abdullahi further criticised the handling of the allegations, saying it was inappropriate to remain in office while questions persisted.
He also referred to a report by People Gazette alleging another oil-related deal, describing the situation as part of a broader pattern of controversy.
“There is something oily about the whole thing. Look, in this country, this scandal will be the end of this administration,” he said.
