According to the Daily Post on Friday, July 3, 2026, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as the national leader of the “winning faction” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the commissioning of access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Abuja’s Karsana District.
The event, held as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, was attended by senior government officials and political leaders.
Responding to Wike’s praise of his performance as Governor of Akwa Ibom State under the PDP, Akpabio said his political career predated the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“APC was born in about 2014 and by that time I was already seven and a half years as a governor and that’s why I sometimes refer to myself as an ancestor,” he said.
Akpabio thanked Wike for the commendation, noting that his years in office placed him among an earlier generation of political leaders whose careers began before the political realignments that led to the formation of the APC.
