Former Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has alleged that he was asked to pay a ₦100 million bribe to secure reappointment to the federal cabinet after leaving office.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, July 3, 2026, Dalung made the claim while discussing alleged corruption in government appointments amid the controversy surrounding the purported Presidential International Peaceful Future Council (PIPFC).
Recalling the incident, Dalung said, “When I couldn’t return to office as minister, someone walked from the Villa to my house and told me: ‘We were responsible for clearing your name after vetting, but because you didn’t give us money, with the benefit of hindsight, we won’t ask for much, raise ₦100 million for us and we’ll get you back into office.'”
Dalung said he rejected the offer, insisting he would not pay to regain public office. He alleged that the practice of buying political appointments fuels corruption by encouraging officeholders to recover illicit payments through public funds.
He called for a thorough investigation into the process of screening and appointing public officials, arguing that dismantling alleged cash-for-office networks is essential to strengthening accountability in government.
