According to a report by PUNCH on July 31, 2026, Nigerian lawyer Waliu Taofik has commented on the legal implications of the court wedding between popular content creators Peller and Jarvis.
His remarks followed widespread online debate over divorce, property sharing and polygamy after videos of the couple’s civil wedding surfaced on Wednesday.

In a post on X, Taofik stated that under Nigerian law, a Muslim man who marries under the Marriage Act can still marry another Muslim woman under Islamic law through a Nikkah ceremony.
“Peller, as a Muslim that married under the act, you’re allowed under the law to get married to another woman (a Muslim woman) under Islamic law,” he wrote.
Taofik argued that a statutory or court marriage does not prevent a Muslim man from exercising that right, adding that Islamic law recognises such a marriage. He maintained that Peller remains legally entitled to marry another Muslim woman despite his court wedding.
