“Atiku Was Not the One Who Invited Obi and Kwankwaso to the ADC; They Were the Last to Join” — Momodu

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu has dismissed claims that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was responsible for bringing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso into the party’s coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a debate on News Central TV, Momodu said Atiku did not invite the two opposition figures, insisting they were “the last ones to arrive” after coalition discussions had already begun within the party.

He explained that the coalition emerged through consultations involving political leaders from different parts of the country and stressed that no individual should be regarded as the owner of the process. According to him, political alliances are built through collaboration, compromise and dialogue among various interest groups.

Momodu urged Nigerians to focus on strengthening the opposition rather than debating who initiated the coalition talks. He added that the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections is still evolving and that the success of any opposition alliance will depend on its leadership, experience and ability to attract nationwide support.

He also called on political supporters to avoid personalising coalition negotiations, saying democratic politics should promote cooperation and mutual respect.
