Samaila Kaigama, President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, has said he asked kidnappers to record a second video after rejecting the first one they made during negotiations over the abduction of women and children in Ngoshe, Borno State.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Kaigama said the videos were used as proof that the hostages were still alive and formed part of communication between negotiators and the abductors.
According to Kaigama, about 460 women and children were abducted in the mass kidnapping, which drew nationwide attention and prompted efforts by families, community leaders and other stakeholders to secure their release.
“What many Nigerians may not realize is that they initially created the first video. The first video was not satisfactory, and I had to advise them to produce another one, and ultimately, they completed the second video, which the world eventually witnessed,” Kaigama said.
He said the second recording later became the video seen by the public as negotiations over the release of the victims continued.
