Hajiya Asia El-Rufai has appealed to Bola Tinubu, questioning what she described as her family’s treatment despite their support during the 2023 presidential election campaign.
Her remarks, captured in a video shared by the Nigerian Tribune on X, came amid reports that the personal doctor of Nasir El-Rufai was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. The circumstances surrounding the reported arrest remain unclear.
Addressing the president, Asia El-Rufai said she campaigned extensively across Kaduna State and that her husband was among Tinubu’s strongest political allies during the election.
“I’m talking to the President, Bola Tinubu personally. Mr President, I campaigned for you. I went to every nook and cranny in Kaduna State for you. My husband stood by your side. Is this what our family deserves?” she said.
The video has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians expressing sympathy for the El-Rufai family, while others argued that anti-corruption investigations should proceed independently of political considerations.
