Donald Duke and Sowore Cannot Defeat BAT, But Obi and Kwankwaso Can Defeat Him — Akeregha

Social crusader Igho Akeregha has said the opposition’s chances in the 2027 presidential election will depend on presenting candidates with broad national appeal, strong political structures and the ability to unite voters across Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on June 25, 2026, Akeregha argued that defeating an incumbent president requires more than political ambition, noting that opposition figures differ significantly in electoral strength.

“Donald Duke and Sowore cannot defeat BAT, but Obi and Kwankwaso can defeat him,” he said, referring to former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, activist Omoyele Sowore, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu.

Akeregha said Obi and Kwankwaso have built substantial political support bases and remain influential figures within the opposition, making them stronger contenders in a presidential race.

He added that the opposition’s success would depend largely on its ability to remain united, warning that internal divisions and multiple candidates could weaken its chances. According to him, effective voter mobilisation, strong campaign structures and a convincing vision for Nigerians will be crucial in making the 2027 presidential election competitive.
