Eight terrorists killed as troops foil deadly attack on Katsina commuters

Eight suspected terrorists were killed after troops of the 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, working alongside hybrid forces, foiled a planned attack on commuters along the Kakumi–Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area.

According to a report by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation followed credible intelligence that gunmen loyal to a suspected kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki, were planning to attack motorists and other road users.

The report said the suspects were advancing on five motorcycles when troops swiftly mobilised and laid an ambush along their suspected route.

“The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, during which eight of the assailants were neutralised,” Makama said.

Following the operation, security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles allegedly used by the suspects. Troops have since intensified patrols and surveillance across the area to prevent retaliatory attacks on nearby communities and commuters as Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues efforts to curb terrorist activities across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
