The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed a viral video showing Peter Obi speaking to police officers, saying it was deliberately edited to create a false political impression.
According to the command, the original footage was recorded during a 2024 leadership dispute at the Labour Party national headquarters in Utako, Abuja, where officers were deployed and Obi briefly addressed them about the situation.
Police said the video was later altered with political campaign posters, captions, and other visual elements to falsely suggest the Nigeria Police Force participated in or endorsed a political campaign.
FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said the force remains professional and non-partisan and urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing content on social media.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation to identify those responsible for editing and circulating the manipulated video, warning that anyone found to have intentionally spread false or misleading content could face legal action.
The incident has renewed concerns over the spread of manipulated videos and misinformation as political activities intensify ahead of future elections.
