Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has expressed grief over the death of a teacher, Ummulkhairi, who was allegedly lynched by a mob in Jos after being accused of attempting to kidnap children.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, June 22, 2026, Dalung said Ummulkhairi left her home in New Maraban Jos to attend a lecture organized by Islamic scholars, including Malam Umar Waliy, whom he identified as his father, at Madrasat Tashiyhul Iman, a school founded by Malama Mardiyya in the old Maraba area.
According to Dalung, the teacher lost her way and approached some children to ask for directions after those assigned to accompany her had already gone ahead. He alleged that some women raised an alarm, accusing her of attempting to kidnap the children, which attracted a crowd that took her to a police station.
Dalung stated that relatives, scholars, and community members identified Ummulkhairi as a respected teacher and insisted there was no evidence against her. However, he claimed the crowd refused to listen to appeals for mercy.
He alleged that the mob attacked, killed, and set her body ablaze, while also burning the motorcycle of a scholar who attempted to intervene. Dalung lamented that Ummulkhairi had left home in pursuit of knowledge but never returned.
