Bishop David Abioye has called on churches to improve the welfare of pastors and missionaries, saying they should earn at least Nigeria’s national minimum wage.
Speaking in a message published on his YouTube channel on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Presiding Bishop of Conquerors Global Assembly rejected reports that some resident pastors and missionaries receive as little as N20,000 or N30,000 per month.
“How can a missionary be earning N20,000 or N30,000 in a month? I said no, pay them the minimum government wage,” Abioye said.
The cleric argued that those serving in ministry should be treated with dignity and fairness. His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the welfare of church workers and the implementation of Nigeria’s N70,000 national minimum wage.
Abioye, a former Vice President of Living Faith Church Worldwide, maintained that religious institutions should prioritize the well-being of their workers, just as employers are expected to do in other sectors.
