National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) President, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has said that although he did not receive formal education, the knowledge and experience he has acquired over the years have given him a level of understanding he believes surpasses that of many university graduates.
According to a Daily Post report published on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, MC Oluomo made the remarks during the 50th golden jubilee celebration of Islamic singer Hafsat Adegoke in Lagos.
Reflecting on his journey from bus conductor to NURTW president, he said his rise was built on years of hard work, patience and practical learning rather than academic qualifications.
“I didn’t go to school, but the knowledge and understanding I possess in my head are greater than those held by people with degrees,” he said.
MC Oluomo explained that he learned the transport business from the grassroots, gradually rising through the ranks by mastering the responsibilities of each stage of his career.
Despite his lack of formal education, he stressed that he values education and ensured his children had opportunities he never enjoyed. According to him, some of his children have gone on to become doctors, lawyers and engineers.
He said their achievements reflect the importance he places on education, adding that providing quality schooling for his children was one of the most significant decisions he made as a parent.
The NURTW president maintained that while academic qualifications are valuable, practical experience, continuous learning and dedication can also play a significant role in achieving personal and professional success.
