Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has credited President Bola Tinubu’s support for the progress recorded by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), saying effective leadership requires the backing of the country’s chief executive.
According to a Daily Post report published on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Wike made the remarks during the commissioning of a water supply network in Bwari Satellite Town, one of the projects inaugurated as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
The minister revealed that he had asked his wife, Suzzette, to pray that President Tinubu would continue to support the FCTA, adding that those prayers had been answered.
“I have said to people, I was a governor and I was a minister before, you can be a minister and if you don’t have that support it will be difficult for you to go forward,” Wike said.
He stated that the President’s backing has enabled the FCTA to implement infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of residents and accelerating development across the capital.
Wike said the primary purpose of governance is to improve citizens’ welfare, adding that governments derive satisfaction from meeting the needs of the people through effective service delivery.
The minister assured that the FCTA would continue to justify the confidence reposed in it by delivering more projects and enhancing public services across the Federal Capital Territory.
He also linked the outcome of the recent FCT area council elections to public approval of the administration’s performance, claiming residents demonstrated their support by electing all the area council chairmen aligned with President Tinubu.
Wike described the election outcome as unprecedented in the FCT and said the combination of presidential support and the FCTA’s commitment has produced visible improvements in infrastructure and public services.
