Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has said he played a key role in shaping the political future of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting he laid the foundation for the governor’s continued success in office.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike recalled inaugurating the Rivers Ring Road project, which he described as a major opportunity for Fubara to strengthen his leadership credentials. He said he had publicly declared at the project’s launch that completing the road would make it difficult for anyone to stop the governor from securing a second term.
According to Wike, the statement reflected his confidence in Fubara’s political prospects and the support he had offered him. He argued that delivering a landmark infrastructure project such as the Ring Road would have boosted public trust and strengthened the governor’s popularity across Rivers State.
The minister added that effective leadership is measured by tangible development projects that improve people’s lives. He maintained that governments earn lasting public support by fulfilling campaign promises and focusing on governance and infrastructure rather than political disputes, saying such performance enhances a leader’s chances in future elections.
