Former Rivers State governorship candidate and Sahara Group co-founder Tonye Cole has said the political climate in Rivers State has become more inclusive, describing the change as a significant step toward unity and development.
Speaking on Channels Television, Cole said one of his objectives when he entered politics was to help end the deep political divisions that once characterized the state.
“One of the things that I set out to do back then was to ensure that that kind of division must end. I’m grateful to see that today, eight years later, that division has ended. That is the foundation from which we now build,” he said.
Cole noted that politicians from opposing parties can now engage with one another, unlike in the past.
Recalling an earlier experience, he said, “I remember going to greet one of our former governors and he removed his hand and warned me never to do that again because we were in public and I was an APC candidate. That was the kind of politics I entered into.”
He described the current atmosphere as evidence of improved political tolerance in Rivers State.
