Dr. Katch Ononuju, Director-General of the Heritage Centre, has said his past dispute with former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo shaped his views on due process and the treatment of political opponents.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Ononuju recalled that Osinbajo allegedly threatened legal action against him over public statements, giving him seven days to retract them or face a lawsuit.
According to Ononuju, he refused to withdraw the remarks and told those who approached him that he was prepared to present additional information if the matter proceeded to court.
“Osinbajo got up one time and said he would take me to court. He gave me seven days that if I don’t take back what I said in public, he would take me to court. I didn’t move. I told those who came to me that if Yemi tries and I see him in any court, I will open chapter two of my files on him,” he said.
Ononuju claimed the case was never pursued, adding that elder statesmen told him Osinbajo would not resign from office to personally prosecute the matter. He urged authorities handling former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s legal issues to respect due process and protect his rights under the law.
