Presidential aide Daniel Bwala says relocating abroad does not automatically guarantee a better quality of life, arguing that many Nigerians who moved to the United Kingdom in search of greener pastures are facing significant economic challenges.
According to Daily Trust on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Bwala made the remarks during an appearance on The Morayo Show. He said many Nigerians in the UK, including those with university and postgraduate qualifications, are working in care homes and other jobs unrelated to their educational backgrounds.
Bwala argued that many migrants are unable to fully utilise their skills and, in some cases, endure working conditions he described as comparable to “modern-day slavery” in order to meet their financial obligations.
“I want to tell you today, some of you in Nigeria still think you are suffering. You’re better off than your colleagues that japa five years ago,” he said.
He urged Nigerians considering relocation to weigh both the opportunities and challenges of living abroad, stressing that success overseas is not guaranteed and should not be judged solely by social media or public perception.
