According to a report by the Daily Post on Friday, July 3, 2026, Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to infrastructure development, saying the minister has consistently demonstrated dedication to public service throughout his political career.
Akpabio made the remarks while inaugurating access roads leading to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in the Karsana West District of the FCT. The ceremony was one of the events organised to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, with the Senate President representing the President.
Speaking about their long-standing relationship, Akpabio recalled that Wike visited Akwa Ibom during his tenure as governor and toured several infrastructure projects, including the state’s underground drainage system. He said the visit inspired Wike, who later expressed confidence that he would achieve similar success if given the opportunity to lead a state.
According to Akpabio, Wike fulfilled that expectation after becoming Governor of Rivers State by delivering numerous development projects. He said the FCT minister has carried the same commitment into his current role, where he continues to oversee major infrastructure projects across the nation’s capital.
Akpabio also urged Wike to remain measured despite his impressive performance, adding that leadership is a continuous process that extends beyond one individual. He said, “If Jesus Christ had done all the work for God, there would be no need for the Pope, so another governor would come, don’t do this just because you saw me working so hard.”
The Senate President concluded by commending Wike’s consistency and work ethic, expressing confidence that his dedication to delivering impactful projects in the Federal Capital Territory would continue to earn him recognition and greater opportunities to serve the country.
