If Same Court That Granted Order Has Now Set It Aside, Why Bring Tinubu Into This?—Basiru Slams Obi

Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected allegations by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi that the Federal Government is trying to prevent him from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

According to Punch, Basiru said Obi should challenge any perceived injustice through the courts instead of accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or questioning the judiciary over recent legal developments involving the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He argued that the judiciary remains a pillar of Nigeria’s democracy and accused Obi of applying double standards by accepting favourable court rulings while criticising judgments that do not support his political interests.

Basiru explained that although a court initially directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC, the same court later set aside the order after determining that some affected parties had not been given an opportunity to be heard.

“In law, everybody knows that a court that made an order can set it aside when necessary parties have not been heard. So, if the same court that granted the order has now set it aside, why bring the President into this? He should go and settle his case in court rather than drag the President into it,” Basiru said.
