If You Must Travel by Air, Keep One Day Free. You Are Not Sure What Will Happen at the Airport — Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has advised Nigerians to allow extra time when travelling by air, citing uncertainty over airport experiences.

In a video shared by Advocacy for Good Governance on July 13, 2026, Obi said travellers should keep an additional day free because of the unpredictability of events at airports.

“Today in Nigeria, if you must travel by air, please keep one day free, because you are not sure what can happen at the airport,” he said.

Obi’s remarks come amid his recent dispute with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. The minister had demanded a public apology and payment of a ₦25,000 fine after Obi alleged that his vehicle was unjustly clamped at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The comments add to the ongoing public exchange between the two figures over the airport incident and broader concerns about the experience of air travellers in Nigeria.
