Ukraine launched a large-scale overnight drone attack targeting energy and industrial facilities in southern Russia, while Russian authorities reported one of the largest recent drone assaults on the Moscow region, according to the Kyiv Post.
Officials in Stavropol Krai said drones sparked a fire at an industrial site in the village of Vyazniki, while authorities in Krasnodar Krai reported another fire at an industrial facility in the Temryuk district. Independent outlet Astra identified the Vyazniki site as an oil depot and said it was the second such facility in the area targeted within a week.
Russian authorities also reported drone attacks around Moscow. Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said three people were killed and three injured after a drone struck residential homes in the village of Pionersky. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defence systems intercepted 50 drones approaching the capital, while Vorobyov said 81 drones were intercepted across the wider Moscow region.
The attacks temporarily disrupted operations at all four of Moscow’s international airports before flight restrictions were lifted.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems destroyed 342 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between July 12 and 13 across multiple regions, including the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, occupied Crimea and areas over the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. However, the ministry did not mention Stavropol Krai despite regional authorities confirming a fire following a reported drone attack.
