The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan Zone, has warned the governments of Oyo and Kwara states to fully implement the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement from July 2026 or face an indefinite strike.
Speaking on Tuesday at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, ASUU’s Ibadan Zone, which comprises six universities, said members at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and Kwara State University were being unfairly treated due to the non-implementation of the agreement.
Zonal Coordinator Prof. Biodun Olaniran said the union had exhausted its patience and had begun full mobilisation for “a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike” if the state governments failed to comply.
ASUU demanded that members’ next salaries reflect the Consequential Adjustment and Transportation Allowance (CATA) and all other agreed allowances, while arrears from January 2026 should be paid in full without delay.
The union commended the governing councils of the affected universities for their efforts but accused the governors of failing to provide the financial backing required to implement the agreement. It urged Governors Seyi Makinde and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to act immediately to prevent disruption of academic activities and also called for improved security, noting that education thrives in a peaceful environment.
