NDC: INEC Flagged This as a Preliminary Objection, That This Logo Is Similar to That of PMP—Umeh

Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central and is a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the June 26 ruling by Justice Inyang Ekwo, arguing that it contradicts the earlier judgment that led to the party’s registration.

Speaking to Arise News, Umeh said the court’s latest decision had created an unnecessary legal obstacle for the NDC despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registering the party in compliance with the original order.

He described the ruling as a “total miscarriage of justice,” maintaining that the court had no legal basis to revisit a decision that had already been implemented.

Umeh said one of the issues raised during the initial proceedings was the alleged similarity between the NDC’s logo and that of the Progressive People’s Movement (PMP). According to him, INEC presented the matter as a preliminary objection, which the court considered and dismissed before ordering the party’s registration.

“INEC flagged this as a preliminary objection, that this logo is similar to that of PMP. This judge, in his considered judgment, dismissed it. So he was not misled by NDC in making the order,” Umeh said.

He argued that the court had already resolved all relevant issues in the original proceedings and should not have interpreted the earlier judgment in a way that could prevent the NDC from participating in the 2027 general elections.
