Former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff says states now receive in two or three months what Borno received in federal allocations throughout his eight years in office, crediting the increase to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
According to a Daily Post report published on Monday, July 6, 2026, Sheriff made the remarks during an interview defending the Tinubu administration’s economic policies. He said the removal of the fuel subsidy enabled the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to distribute significantly higher revenues to state governments.
“During my eight years in office, I was responsible for allocating approximately N150 billion. What a single state currently receives in a span of two or three months is this. Tinubu has accomplished a great deal if one looks at the records,” he said.
Sheriff argued that the policy has strengthened states’ financial capacity and prevented further strain on public finances. He maintained that the proceeds from subsidy removal were shared among the states rather than retained by the Federal Government.
Addressing insecurity, Sheriff said improving security requires cooperation among the Federal Government, state governments, local authorities, traditional institutions and citizens. He urged Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration’s policies based on their long-term impact.
