Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has revealed that he was born in an army barracks in Yaba, Lagos, saying the experience shaped his appreciation for the Nigerian military and its role in national security.
According to a Sahara Reporters report published on Monday, July 6, 2026, Fubara made the remarks during a public event while acknowledging the efforts of the armed forces in preserving peace and stability.
“I was born in the army barrack. I cannot remember the name but I know it’s Yaba in Lagos,” the governor said.
Fubara praised the military for its commitment to tackling insecurity and protecting lives and property across the country. He also highlighted the importance of security agencies in maintaining peace and order, describing security as one of the key priorities of his administration in Rivers State.
His remarks come amid ongoing concerns over insecurity in several parts of Nigeria and have generated public reactions, with some viewing them as reflecting his personal connection to the military and others seeing them as recognition of the security forces’ role in governance.
