I’ve Never Slept for Eight Hours in My Life; Usually, I Get About Three to Four Hours of Sleep — Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says he has never slept for eight hours in his life, attributing his energy and work ethic to the grace of God as he marked his 65th birthday.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun after returning from a foreign trip that took him through five cities in three countries within six days, Obi reflected on his life, political aspirations, the 2027 presidential election, and Nigeria’s current state.

Obi said God’s grace has sustained him throughout his life and inspired his commitment to serving humanity. He added that he wishes more people of his generation had done more to improve society and create a better future for younger Nigerians.

Describing his demanding schedule, Obi said he traveled from Lagos to the United States for meetings in Houston, Washington, D.C., and New York before proceeding to Berlin and the United Kingdom, then returning to Nigeria within six days. He said he was also scheduled to attend events in Enugu, Lagos, and Abuja immediately afterward.

Rejecting suggestions that he relies on energy drinks, Obi said, “My strength comes entirely from God.”

He added, “I’ve never in my life slept for eight hours. Usually, I get about three to four hours of sleep,” explaining that his busy schedule often requires him to wake as early as 4:00 a.m. for flights and continue working until midday or later.
