Khamenei: ‘This Was a Mistake; They’re Just Throwing a Lifeline to a Regime That Was Finished’ – Vahidi

Iranian activist Omid Vahidi has criticized the Trump administration’s decision to sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran, describing the move as a major mistake that prolonged the survival of a regime he believes was already on the brink of collapse.

Speaking in a video posted by Sky News on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Vahidi responded to a question about whether the agreement, which he called “a deal to make a deal,” had handed Iran influence over the Strait of Hormuz too quickly.

Vahidi argued that Iran’s military, including its navy and air force, had already been severely weakened and that the government was under intense economic pressure without the support of its people.

“So that’s a very good question. You said it very well. So, it’s a deal to make a deal, and it was a big mistake. They are just throwing a lifeline to the regime that was already done,” he said.

He added that he could not understand the administration’s reasoning, describing the memorandum as “ludicrous” and warning that it would give Iran’s leadership time to rebuild rather than reform, while alleging the government has a history of breaking its promises.
