The Kogi State Government has confirmed the rescue of four people abducted during the recent attack on an unauthorized NECO examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area.
According to Commissioner for Information and Communications Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the victims were rescued during a coordinated security operation ordered by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo immediately after the abduction.
The operation involved the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups and other security personnel, who conducted an intensive search of the forest where the victims were believed to be held.
Fanwo said sustained military pressure and the deployment of heavily armed security operatives forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee. The rescued victims—a school principal, a NECO official and two students—are receiving medical attention and undergoing security debriefing.
The commissioner commended the professionalism of the security agencies and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing them to provide the support needed for the rescue operation.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminality, pledging to continue security operations until those responsible for the attack are arrested and brought to justice while strengthening intelligence gathering, security logistics and inter-agency collaboration.
