Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lere Olayinka, has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was asked by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to change its logo before seeking a court order compelling the commission to register the party.
In a post on his X account, Olayinka alleged that the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) had applied for registration before the NDC and had already submitted a logo similar to the one later adopted by the NDC.
Sharing images of the two logos, he claimed the NDC was only required to adopt a different logo but instead pursued legal action.
“NDC was simply asked to change this logo. Instead, they went to court to secure a judgment compelling INEC to register the party,” Olayinka wrote.
He further alleged that this was why information relating to the NDC on INEC’s portal was marked “By Court Order.”
The comments come amid ongoing public debate over the legal circumstances surrounding the NDC’s registration and a recent court ruling directing INEC to deregister the party. Olayinka’s claims have not been independently verified.
