Students of the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna) on Tuesday reportedly prevented the university’s Vice-Chancellor from entering the campus through the main gate during a protest over worsening insecurity.
The demonstration followed repeated robbery attacks around student hostels, particularly in communities surrounding the Gidan Kwano campus. Students said armed robbers had repeatedly targeted them, leaving many fearful and stripped of their valuables.
Videos circulating online showed hundreds of students gathered at the university entrance, carrying placards and chanting as they demanded improved security, increased patrols, and stronger collaboration between the university, police, and local authorities.
The protest remained largely peaceful but temporarily disrupted access to the campus. As of the time of reporting, the university had not issued an official statement confirming the reported blockade of the Vice-Chancellor or announcing additional security measures.
The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of students living off campus, with protesters insisting that urgent action is needed to restore confidence and improve security.
