Magaji Ahmadu, a representative of the Village Head of Sayaya in Katsina State, has linked the community’s prolonged insecurity to the killing of the father of a notorious bandit kingpin, saying the incident triggered a cycle of violence.
Speaking in an interview with News Central TV on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Ahmadu said the circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear. “One of the bandit kingpin’s father was killed and since then, we had this conflict. We don’t know who killed him, although some say it’s security agents,” he said.
According to Ahmadu, the uncertainty over the killing has fueled retaliation, forcing many residents to flee their homes while others continue to live in fear of attacks. He added that the insecurity has disrupted farming, trading and other economic activities in Sayaya and surrounding communities.
Ahmadu appealed to authorities to strengthen security and restore peace, saying residents want to return to normal life. Banditry remains a major security challenge in northwestern Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State, where repeated attacks, kidnappings and displacement have affected many rural communities.
