The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has recounted how his first trip outside Africa in 1975 reinforced his belief in divine favour and the importance of obedience to God.
Speaking during a sermon shared on YouTube, Adeboye said he travelled to Canada in 1975 to attend a meeting of applied mathematicians as one of two delegates representing Nigeria. He described the opportunity as an act of God’s mercy rather than personal achievement.
Adeboye recalled that during a barbecue hosted after the conference, he moved away from the crowd to reflect but found the ground too cold to sit on. He said a young man who had listened to one of his conference contributions offered his jacket for him to sit on. Although he initially declined, Adeboye said he sensed God telling him, “You are the son of the King of kings, sit down,” prompting him to accept the gesture as an expression of divine favour.
He urged Christians to remain obedient to God instead of relying on dishonest means to succeed, adding that obedience positions believers for uncommon favour. Adeboye also recalled God showing him a small parcel of land and declaring it would become a city, encouraging Christians to trust God’s promises regardless of how impossible they may seem.
