The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Mustapha Yahaya, for impersonating a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, 27th July, 2026.
According to the PPRO, the suspect was intercepted on Monday, July 27, during a routine patrol by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) along Bayan Gari in Bauchi metropolis.
Upon questioning, the suspect claimed to be a personnel of the DSS attached to the Bauchi State Command.
Further investigations revealed that the claim was false.
“For the third time in a week, the Bauchi State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of another impersonator. The suspect, Mustapha Yahaya, male, 40 years, whose address is Ran Road, Bauchi, was apprehended for impersonating a personnel of the Department of State Services, DSS,” the statement read.
“According to the report, in the early hours of today, 27th July 2026 at about 0100hrs, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) on routine patrol along Bayan Gari, in the capital city of Bauchi State, intercepted the suspect.
“Upon questioning, he claimed to be a personnel of the DSS, Bauchi State Command.
“Further investigation, however, revealed that the claim was false and that the suspect is not a member of the DSS.
“The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court for prosecution upon completion of investigation.
“CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), has warned members of the public to be wary of impostors and to always demand proper identification from anyone claiming to be a security operative.
“He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to rid the State of criminal elements and ensure public safety.”
