Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate Inibehe Effiong has criticized recent remarks by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu encouraging Nigerians to start small-scale businesses requiring minimal capital.
According to a report by PUNCH, the First Lady suggested ventures such as selling akara, roasting corn, and producing kuli-kuli as affordable business opportunities.
Reacting in a post on his official X account on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Effiong argued that members of the First Lady’s family and women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be the first to establish such businesses if they are being promoted as viable sources of income.
“Senator Remi Tinubu should first set up corn, akara and kuli-kuli business for some members of her family and the APC women leaders. It will encourage other Nigerians to venture into the same business,” he wrote.
Effiong also expressed concern over the country’s leadership, saying future generations would judge the present generation for allowing poor governance to persist. His comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media.
