Former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff has condemned armed violence across Nigeria, saying he will never support or associate with any group that takes up arms to kill people, regardless of its region or affiliation.
Speaking during an interview aired on Channels Television on Monday, July 6, 2026, Sheriff responded to questions about whether he condemns those responsible for killings and abductions in northern Nigeria after being challenged over his criticism of Peter Obi’s stance on IPOB.
“I never accept for any section of the country to carry arms and kill people. I will never be part of it and I will never associate myself with such people,” Sheriff said.
He stressed that his condemnation applies equally to all armed groups and confirmed that he rejects violence irrespective of where it occurs.
Addressing suggestions that Nigeria should respond with overwhelming military force, Sheriff said he does not support that approach and expressed reservations about it. He also urged journalists and public commentators to exercise caution when discussing sensitive security issues.
