Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has responded to recent criticism of Peter Obi by former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff by sharing an old video of politician and rights activist Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad making allegations against Sheriff.
The response followed Sheriff’s appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he questioned Obi’s suitability for the presidency. In a post on his verified X account, Tanko also defended the former Anambra State governor, saying Obi took decisive action against terrorism during his tenure and was the only governor to criminalise terrorism regardless of religion or ethnicity.
Tanko further rejected claims that Obi expelled Northerners from Anambra State, arguing that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had publicly dismissed the allegation as false.
He urged Nigerians to base political debates on verified information rather than unsubstantiated claims, concluding: “Public discussions should be based on verified facts rather than repeating allegations that have been disputed or are unsupported by credible evidence. A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The allegations referenced by Tanko against Sheriff have circulated publicly for years. However, no court has found the former governor guilty of involvement in the creation of Boko Haram, and Sheriff has consistently denied the accusations.
