Austin Okai, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed reports of internal divisions, insisting the party remains united ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Okai said former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi is the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
“There is no crisis within the ADC. Amaechi is Atiku’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election,” Okai said, adding that Amaechi has participated in strategic meetings with Atiku and is actively involved in campaign preparations.
Okai alleged that speculation surrounding Amaechi’s silence was being driven by political opponents and dissatisfied individuals. He argued that the ADC’s official announcements do not require separate confirmation from individual candidates.
He also defended the appointment of Kenneth Okonkwo as the party’s presidential campaign spokesperson, saying his earlier comments on the vice-presidential position reflected regional political interests that had since been resolved internally.
Okai said the ADC is focused on strengthening its campaign structure, expanding nationwide support and presenting itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 election.
