You Can Leave Damaturu in the Afternoon, Travel to Any Local Government and Safely Return – Goje

According to The Punch on Friday, July 3, 2026, Yobe State Secretary to the Government Mohammed Goje said Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration has restored peace and stability across the state since 2019, enabling progress in healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure and social development.

Goje said the government inherited widespread insecurity that left many communities inaccessible due to insurgent activities. He stated that improved security now allows residents, government agencies and humanitarian organisations to operate freely across the state.

“You can leave Damaturu in the afternoon, travel to any local government and safely return. That was impossible in 2019,” Goje said, adding that all local government areas and nearly all of Yobe’s 178 political wards are now accessible, with only a few communities still facing limited access.

He said the administration has built nearly 150 functional primary healthcare centres and recruited more than 6,000 health workers. Goje also cited investments in mega and model schools, youth empowerment agencies, mechanised agriculture, improved seeds, fertiliser alternatives, markets and transport infrastructure.

He added that the government has rebuilt homes, restored public facilities and supported livelihoods for internally displaced persons, noting that Yobe became the first state to domesticate Nigeria’s national policy on internally displaced persons.
