Lauretta Onochie, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential aide, has challenged the Presidency to publish what she described as the alleged letter of commendation from US President Donald Trump to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement shared on her official X account on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Onochie alleged that the Presidency recycled an old letter to score political points.
Her remarks followed claims by the Presidency that Trump had sent Tinubu a letter commending his administration’s efforts in tackling insecurity.
Onochie disputed the claim, arguing that the letter being referenced was an earlier correspondence sent in response to Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Trump between late 2024 and early 2025.
“There is no letter of commendation from Trump in 2026. The letter they are referencing was written in response to Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Trump in late 2024 or early 2025,” she wrote.
She challenged the Presidency to make the purported 2026 letter public to support its claims.
