Nyesom Wike has defended the ongoing road construction projects across Abuja, saying the infrastructure is improving connectivity, stimulating development and expanding real estate growth in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking during the commissioning of another road project as part of the FCT’s 31-day inauguration programme, Wike said the new road network is opening up previously underserved communities and accelerating development.
He argued that if previous administrations had approved road construction to areas such as Makurdi, those communities would have developed much earlier. According to Wike, some former leaders blocked such projects and preferred travelling by helicopter instead of investing in roads for the benefit of citizens.
“They refused to allow anything to go on, rather than to use helicopters to their various places. But I thank God you have made it possible they no longer fly by helicopter; they now drive by roads to their various areas,” Wike said.
The minister also praised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the projects and said he would compile a list of opposition party officials living in Abuja to show them roads constructed near their residences as the commissioning exercise continues.
