Those Who Want Tinubu to Resign Should “Go Back to School” — We Run a Presidential System Here, Says Sunday Dare

Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Communications, has dismissed calls for President Bola Tinubu to resign, describing them as inconsistent with Nigeria’s constitutional system of government.

Speaking on the Mic on Podcast in a video posted on YouTube on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Dare responded to comments by civil society activist Dele Farotimi, who had called on the President to step down. He said both citizens and the government have the right to express their views in a democracy.

“The same right PTOB has to ask President Tinubu to resign is the same right the government has to respond to him, to say the president will not resign,” Dare said.

He argued there was “no basis” for the President’s resignation, adding that those making such demands should “go back to school because we run a presidential system.”

Dare explained that Nigeria’s President serves a fixed term under the Constitution and that citizens have the opportunity to reward or reject elected leaders during general elections held every four years, including those for the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives.
