Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, a Nigerian Army officer, was killed during the operation that secured the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, according to military sources.
Citing Vanguard, the sources said the 28-year-old officer was among the troops who launched the initial assault on the kidnappers’ hideout deep inside a forest, leading the operation as security forces attempted to breach the camp.
According to the sources, Lt. Isaac was killed when the convoy he was travelling in struck an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by the kidnappers. Despite the loss, security personnel continued the mission while adjusting their operational strategy.
“We will never forget him,” one of Lt. Isaac’s colleagues said, describing the officer as “a gallant soldier who paid the supreme sacrifice in the service of his country.”
The sources said security agencies subsequently adopted a more intelligence-driven approach, combining surveillance, sustained pressure and inter-agency collaboration. The strategy ultimately led to the rescue of the surviving teachers and pupils after 56 days in captivity.
Military sources described Lt. Isaac as a courageous and dedicated officer whose sacrifice contributed to the success of the operation. They added that he was buried with full military honours on the same day the rescued victims regained their freedom.
