Broadcaster Seun Okinbaloye questioned former Labour Party Chairman Julius Abure over his continued public comments about former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi during an interview on Channels Television on June 9, 2026.
The discussion centered on Abure’s repeated references to Obi despite the former Anambra State governor’s departure from the Labour Party.
Okinbaloye noted that Obi was no longer a member of the party and questioned why Abure continued to comment on his activities and political decisions. He suggested that the attention appeared excessive given that Obi was no longer involved in the party’s internal affairs.
During the interview, Okinbaloye pressed Abure to explain what he described as a persistent focus on the former presidential candidate and whether there was a deeper reason behind the repeated criticisms and references.
Addressing Abure directly, he said: “Mr Peter Obi has since left your party, yet you are still going after him, you still continue to talk about him, what’s this fixation about Peter Obi, did he collect your girlfriend, did he steal anything from you?”
The remark quickly attracted attention because of its blunt and confrontational tone, highlighting Okinbaloye’s view that the level of attention being given to Obi appeared unusual.
The exchange took place during a broader discussion on recent political developments and shifting relationships within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
It also underscored the continued tensions between some Labour Party figures and Obi following his exit from the party, while reflecting ongoing public interest in the former presidential candidate’s political influence and activities.
